Staglieno, Italy

Intensely beautiful, the still marble speaks.

Built with skillful hands and brilliant minds, the statues of Staglieno cemetery in Genoa, Italy, still stand centuries after the master artists who created them are mere dust. The carefully crafted blocks of carrara marble were transformed to wondrous shapes that sometimes seem to defy gravity as well as any limit the material itself might present. It seems near impossible that such delicate carvings could ever be shaped from stone- lace, petals, even the veins are executed with such precision one is bound to feel a little overwhelmed.
